SHAWANO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Investigators in Missouri are still trying to figure out what happened to the Shawano brothers who went missing.
The death investigation continues with no answers and no discovery of the bodies of Nick and Justin Diemel, according to Clinton County Sheriff Larry Fish who explained what they do know after one week.”We do know that they arrived in the rental truck and they were there for a business deal with cattle. We do not know what exactly occurred yet.”
That deal allegedly took place on the Garland Nelson farm.
Garland “Joey” Nelson, 25, is charged with felony tampering of a motor vehicle after admitting to moving Nick and Justin Diemel’s rental truck from his farm property to a commuter lot more than 30 miles away, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Fish said they are investigating multiple locations, but there is a lot of room to cover at the Nelson farm.”It is about 74 acres. We are just trying to come up with evidence.”
He says daily rain has made it difficult to locate and preserve any evidence.
“We have a lot of leads that have come in and we are working on those leads.”On Monday, Fish identified Nelson as a suspect in the case.
He says the Diemels had been working on business with Nelson for the last few months.
A probable cause affidavit shows GPS data from the brothers’ rental truck has it leaving their hotel at 8:49 on the morning of July 21. At 9:26 it showed up at the property where Nelson conducts his farm business. It left about two hours later. The rental truck arrived at the park-and-ride lot, more than 30 miles away, an hour later, at 12:44 pm.
Fish says written updates on the case will be issued daily. He says a press conference will only be held if there is a large development.
Nelson’s bond was upheld in court Monday. Another hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
