GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – School leaders say a message circulating on social media threatening a shooting did not originate in the Green Bay area.
According to a letter sent to parents of Green Bay public school students, police are comfortable the threat is not credible.
District officials say they appreciate the students and parents that came forward to report the message.
“We also encourage you to speak with your students about the serious nature of making threats, whether verbally, written or on social media. All threats are investigated by administrators in collaboration with the Green Bay Police Department. Students who make threats, even in jest, are subject to very serious consequences.”
Just this week, a teen was charged with a felony count of making terrorist threats for allegedly threatening a shooting at Waupaca High School. The charge carries a maximum sentence of three and a half years in prison.
