RUDOLPH, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — Around 20,000 letters are expected to get a special Rudolph the Reindeer stamp on their Christmas cards as they pass through the Rudolph Post Office.
It’s part of a seven-decade tradition for the small town in Wood County.
“It started as a Girl Scout project with a long-ago postmaster,” Rudolph Postmaster Becky Trzebiatowski told Newsline 9. “It’s just our little claim to fame.”
Post workers said it’s not uncommon for letters to come in from all corners of the world, including Singapore, China, and Japan. Local residents can also stop by the post office to get the official hand-designed Rudolph stamp.
Bill Wulf of Merrill has lived in the area since 1971, but this year was the first time he took the trip to Rudolph.
“People like to do special things this time of year,” Wulf told Newsline 9.
Rudolph will continue to take letters in for the stamp, but no other hand stamps will be given this year.
