GREEN BAY (WTAQ) — It’s not just cold. It’s record breaking cold in Northeast Wisconsin…but that won’t be the case for too much longer.
Temperatures are expected to return to near-normal levels this weekend.
“There will be some moderation in temperature this weekend with highs back in the 30s. Temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s [early next week],” National Weather Service Meteorologist Roy Eckberg told WTAQ. “Temperatures next week will still be a little below normal, but they’ll be a lot closer than what they have been the last few days.”
Temperatures plummeted to a record 6 degrees in Oshkosh, and tied the record at 11 in Sturgeon Bay. Farther west saw Antigo in Langlade County hitting just 1 degree on the mercury.
Wind chill has made it feel even colder with Green Bay’s high of 21 today feeling more like the low teens, single digits, and even lower once we get to the evening’s low of 11.
This sort of cold can be extremely dangerous.
“Right now, frostbite could occur within 30 minutes,” said Eckberg.
Before we see any relief, we’ll see more snowfall. Snow showers are expected Wednesday with a high of 25.
