UNDATED, (WTAQ) – State Representative Michael Schraa (SCH-RAH) says he’s hoping to introduce legislation this session, which prohibits judges from placing violent sex offenders in counties other than the offender’s county of origin.
Schraa says they need to better define Wisconsin Act 156 by changing the language so it’s not open to interpretation.
“You know we can’t continue to have this problem in our districts and it will start spreading all over the place and I know I have other colleagues that have concerns,” Schraa said.
The process of changing the law will not be a simple process.
“It’s a heavy lift. You know all the intricacies regarding the counties and the towns. It’s not going to be just a quick we’re going to change this word or that word.”
Schraa says in the past, it’s been an issue in the Town of Eldorado, which is in his district.
The bill will be a collaborative effort with other lawmakers.
Schraa hopes to bring the legislation to the floor by this fall.
