HOWARD, WI (WTAQ) – A village trustee in Howard is behind bars Thursday after his arrest on child sexual assault charges.
James Widiger was arrested Thursday and is expected to be formally charged Friday.
The 62-year-old Widiger is booked into the Brown County Jail on 2 counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child.
According to the village’s website, Widiger has represented wards 3 and 4 since 2005.
No village officials would comment about the arrest, and issued this statement:
“The Village of Howard is aware of the arrest of Jim Widiger, who was elected to the Howard Village Board in 2005 and has served as trustee of Wards 3 and 4 since that time. We are monitoring the situation very closely as the matter proceeds through the judicial system. Since the investigation is ongoing, we have no further comment at this time.”
