DE PERE, WI (WTAQ) – A new study shows Wisconsin companies are using wellness programs to improve employee health.
One of those companies is De Pere-based Belmark.
They have a workout room and exercise equipment for staff and their families.
They also have the YMCA. Trainers from the Y go to Belmark and lead classes several times week.
“Over the last couple of years, companies have really been putting a significant emphasis on employee health.”
Nick Rozek runs the Y’s corporate wellness outreach.
They design programs to work with companies and their employees. It leads to healthier staff and a more family-like atmosphere.
All of that sounds good to Karl Schmidt, Belmark CEO.
“People are healthy together. You see that in society getting healthy together. I see that all through Belmark.”
Jennifer Valentine has been working at Belmark for eight years.
She takes advantage of the company workout room and exercise equipment. But is also an active participant in the classes led by Y.
“It’s been an added benefit to Belmark because it helps a total body workout.”
She also says taking a break during the day to go to the Y’s ‘on-site’ exercise class helps her feel more productive when she goes back to her desk.
Rozek says each program is tailored to the employees of the company. It’s not a ‘one size fits all’ workout.
“That could really include different forms of cardiovascular training, a lot of really good strength work.”
The Y’s Corporate Wellness program also aims to encourage healthier lifestyles to employees outside of work.
