BELLEVUE, WI (WTAQ) – For the second straight year, Governor Scott Walker has named April as Missing Persons Awareness Month.
Marsha Loritz is the daughter of missing person Victoria Prokopovitz and spoke at a press conference Friday at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office in Bellevue.
“This is beyond personal for me. I’ve learned so much about the world of the missing while searching for my mom.”
Prokopovitz went missing 3 years ago.
Starting Monday, you’ll be seeing new billboards in Green Bay and surrounding areas.
“We’re kicking off an awareness campaign showcasing Wisconsin’s missing persons on electronic billboards for the entire month of April,” says Loritz.
There will be over 25 billboards statewide, with 12 in Northeast Wisconsin. It’s estimated that they will be seen over 20,000,000 times throughout the month.
Sgt. Roman Aronstein with the Brown County Sheriff’s office says he feels the pain of the missing every day.
“I stand before you today with a heavy heart. I carry this pain with me because I know that each and every one of the names that comprises the missing person list, has a personal story behind it.”
Crime Stoppers will be having an awareness event April 24th at the Brown County Sheriff’s Office from 1-4 p.m. It’s a free family event where finger printing, child ID kits and more will be made available.
