APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Little victories can be big for those going through cancer treatments.
ThedaCare unveiled a new sculpture Wednesday at its Regional Care Center in Appleton, providing patients and families a space to share their highlights in cancer care.
The new eight-foot milestone tree is made from a steel rod that has been hand bent, twisted and welded to form the roots to the branch tips.
The artist and sculptor, Jamison Glisczinski, designed it as an interactive way for a patient to take a moment to celebrate a victory by placing a leaf with their name and anything they wish to include onto the steel tree.
Victories could be a day without nausea, a clear scan or a finishing treatment.
“I’ve made so far a total of 500 leaves and 100 hand-painted flowers. The piece itself is comprised of about 600 feet of linear steel,” Glisczinski explained. “I want to see it full. I want to see that there’s no more room for leaves, no more room for flowers and that I’ll have to build another one.”
The milestone tree was made possible by community donations to the ThedaCare Family of Foundations.
