GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A Green Bay man charged in connection with the deaths of eight dogs was found not guilty by reason of mental disease, following his conviction Tuesday.
Back in September, fire crews were called to the home of Paul Phillips on Klaus Street. Officials found 8 dead Rottweilers inside the home. Phillips told police he was being evicted and set the fire to kill himself and his dogs.
On Tuesday, Phillips pled no contest to charges of criminal damage to property (reduced from an arson count), mistreating animals causing death and recklessly endangering safety. However, Phillips was then found not guilty due to his mental condition.
Phillips returns to court on July 11 for a hearing to determine a treatment plan or other conditions.
