OCONTO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities say the woman who disappeared last week prompting a Silver Alert apparently died of exposure after her vehicle got stuck in county forest property.
That’s according to Oconto County Sheriff Michael Jansen.
85-year-old Constance McDermid was last seen in Gillet on Wednesday May 4. Her car, a Buick Lucerne, was found about 6 miles north of Suring.
Jansen says the car was stuck in the mud at the end of a dead end lane around 1:30 p.m. Saturday. He says the initial autopsy shows McDermid likely died of hypothermia.
It appears she tried to free the car but was unable to. She was not in an area that usually gets much traffic or is near any homes or businesses, the sheriff said.
