KIEL, WI (WTAQ-WLUK)- A dash cam video on Thursday night shows Officer Joe Jeanty responding to a 911 call for a woman in labor.
Jeanty was the first officer to arrive at the home. What happens next, was a surprise.
“Everything happened so fast, I had a ton of thoughts going through my head,” Jeanty said.
Without hesitation, Jeanty hopped into the bathtub to help Angela Henschel give birth.
“Her water already broke, 2 minutes later, she said ‘the baby’s coming’, I looked and saw part of the head coming out so I jumped in the tub,” Jeanty explained.
“I was scared because I didn’t even realize that I can dilate that fast,” said Henschel.
Henschel said Jeanty seemed to know exactly what he needed to do.
“He confirmed that the head was out, and the umbilical cord wasn’t around the neck, and he loosened the shoulder,” said Henschel.
“I use to be an EMT in the past, I did have some training in it,” Jeanty told FOX 11.
Emergency Medical Service crews arrived a short time later, but the baby boy, Kellen, had already been born. It was only 20 minutes after Henschel’s water broke.
After Kellen was born, EMS took the family to Aurora Sheboygan Medical Center.
“I was almost nervously pacing around, waiting for the ambulance to come back, so I can find out how everybody is doing because they were gone within probably 10 to 15 minutes of the baby being delivered,” Jeanty said.
Henschel told FOX 11, Kellen is a 7.5 lb healthy infant.
“He was sleeping all day, hopefully, he’ll be showing a little more enthusiasm tomorrow,” said Henschel.
And in the year’s to come, he’ll learn of his incredible entrance into the world, with help from officer Jeanty.
Officer Jeanty said he plans to visit the family for the first time on Sunday.
