NIAGARA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK)- Karl Hansen took video while driving through a flooded part of US 141 in Niagara Saturday. Water reached the headlights of many cars.
“There was a couple of cars that had been overwhelmed by water and were stalled in the road and the police were here and set up,” said and the bigger cars like the truck I got thru but the smaller cars were going around detouring around the hill.”
Hansen said he if he had to guess he would say the water pooled at about 18″ deep.
Today that same road was left with debris and a few puddles.
While the city saw just under an inch of rain, it came down so fast that the drains couldn’t keep up.
“Well it was coming down in sheets it was raining so hard, you couldn’t hardly see,” said Joe Nawn. “Some people were pulling off the road to wait it out until it stopped, but it wouldn’t stop it just kept coming down for like an hour.”
Nawn said it rained for half of the day, and all of that water went to one place, downhill.
“There’s a lot of hills so there’s a lot of run off,” said Nawn. “Too much concrete not enough drains.”
Andrew and Sue Tyrcha live at the top of one of those hills.
“The rain was done and my wife called me I was in the other room, and I came and looked and sure enough we have a river going down our road,” said Tyrcha.
Neighbors say the water all pools at the bottom of that hill on this two-block stretch of State Highway 141.
“With the rain that we’re supposed to get we could see more flooding,” said Tyrcha.
It’s a concern all over the Northern part of the state as more rain is expected.
“I’m kind of keeping an eye on it,” said Tyrcha.
