ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – Super Donor Day is underway in the Green Bay area, but this year’s blood drive marks the 32nd anniversary and the first time that it is two days long.
This year’s event comes with big goals since the Red Cross is dealing with a shortage of donors.
Debbie Mylener, Donor Recruitment Representative says that is because donated blood is in high demand.
“We find that we get into a situation where we are in critical need of blood, and we are in that need currently.”
The goal of the first day is 230 units to collect and the goal for Tuesday is 150 more units.
The goal is for over 300 units of blood to be collected by Noon Tuesday
“Every unit of blood that we collect can possibly save up to three lives. You can imagine how many lives we can save.”
Super Donor Day is taking place at Shopko Hall on Oneida Street.
No appointments are needed to donate.
Those who are planning to donate should be hydrated, have a healthy meal prior and should be relaxed.
Super Donor Day runs until from 6 am to noon Tuesday.
