GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Green Bay Metro Fire Department is warning of the dangers of sparklers this Fourth of July.
Officials say they are less dangerous than the fireworks that go up in the air, but they can be dangerous if not handled properly.
Shauna Wachholz, Green Bay Metro Fire public information officer and life safety educator, wants people to be aware of how hot sparklers can actually get, “A sparkler can get up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is hot enough to melt metal, so that’s like giving a child a blow torch.”
Children under the age of six are not advised to handle sparklers.
Officials say it is best to avoid the sparklers with metal handles as they tend to heat up the quickest.
