GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A settlement has been reached regarding some of the payments associated with Fox River PCB cleanup.
For several years, the federal government and multiple paper companies have battled in court about which firm would pay what for cleanup and other costs associated with removing PCBs from the river. One of those is P.H. Glatfelter.
According to the nine-page document filed Tuesday: Glatfelter is responsible for $686,185.81 for costs related to the cleanup of what’s known as Operating Unit 1 in Little Lake Butte des Morts. The company has already paid $131,716.60 of that bill. Of the remaining amount, the company will pay half, and the federal government agrees not to collect the other half.
Another $282,748.95 remains in dispute and is subject to future litigation.
The U.S. Dept. of Justice declined to comment. Glatflelter has not responded to Fox 11’s request for a comment.
Since 2009, more than 4.8 million cubic yards of sediment have been dredged. More than 2.7 million tons of sediment has been processed and taken to the landfill for disposal.
