GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Security at concert venues have become a recent concern since the deadly attack outside an Ariana Grande concert at England’s Manchester Arena Monday night.
Twenty-two people were killed in a suicide bombing with dozens more injured.
Next month, Billy Joel will be performing in front of nearly 40,000 fans at Lambeau Field.
Green Bay Police Lt. Brad Strouf says they’ve been working for months to make sure plenty of security is in place.
“Although I can’t disclose exactly what security measures will be taken, I think any of the fans that are planning on attending, rest assured that we’ll be very vigilant and very aware of any suspicious activity and we’ll react accordingly.”
Strouf says they’ve been collaborating with Ashwaubenon Public Safety as well as the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.
“Quite a bit of time is spent, not only on the security portion, but also the traffic control portion. There’s just a lot of different aspects that we look at given the location of Lambeau Field,” said Strouf.
He says security will be similar to a Packers game with over 100 officers on hand.
“Spectators or people attending the event probably won’t notice anything different if they normally attend our home Packer games,” Strouf explained.
The concert is scheduled for Saturday, June 17th at 8pm.
