OCONTO FALLS, WI (WTAQ) – The Oconto Falls School District has canceled class today at Abrams Elementary due to a “police investigation” in the area.
This all started around 1:30 this morning when deputies were checking a business that had been burglarized recently.
Sheriff Michael Jansen….
“During this time the Deputy saw a male subject on foot near the business and asked for him to stop. After which the subject took off running the Deputy pursued for a short distance during which time the subject turned and fired a shot in the direction of the Deputy. The Deputy returned fire, the Deputy was not injured. An initial search of the area has not turned up the subject.”
Jansen says a search of the Pine Acres Golf Course did not result in finding the suspect.
He believes the suspect may have left the area and the search at the course will likely end soon.
The closure of the school was ordered as a precaution while the search continues.
The description of the subject is a male skinny build, lighter complexion, at the time wearing a dark shirt and dark pants.
