ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – A local company is voluntarily recalling some packages of walnut pieces due to possible salmonella contamination.
Eillien’s Candies, based in Ashwaubenon, says they have not received any reports of illnesses tied to the now-recalled items. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration discovered salmonella during routine sampling in a package of walnut pieces.
The recalled products were sold in 27 states, including Wisconsin. They have the following labels and best-by dates:

Salmonella can be deadly to young children, the elderly and others who are frail or have weakened immune systems. In otherwise healthy people, it can cause symptoms including fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
