ALLOUEZ, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities say texting while driving may have caused one of two crashes on Highway 172 in Brown County Wednesday morning.
The first crash, the one blamed on texting, happened in the westbound lanes near the Pilgrim Way exit on the west side of the 172 bridge around 8:30 a.m.
“The first one, we’re thinking, possibly, it was texting on a phone – inattentive driving,” Brown County Sheriff’s Patrol Capt. Dan Sandberg told FOX 11.
From there, Sandberg says westbound traffic began backing up eastward over the bridge to the Webster Avenue exit.
“Once the initial crash started backing traffic up, and then people weren’t giving themselves enough distance to react” it caused a second two-vehicle crash, Sandberg said.
No word yet on any injuries. Sandberg also says slick roads during the morning rush hour contributed to the crashes.
