GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – It wasn’t what Kayla Palmer expected.
“I was wondering what it was to be honest,” she said.
Enjoying a birthday dinner at Mangiare on Adams Street in Green Bay, the sisters were surprised to see this robot, helping out their waitress.
Front of the house manager, Jessica Wilch, says the restaurants new robot Servi, hopes to ease staff workload.
“Both servers and the host help bus the tables and we would like to see our hosts up at the host stand the majority of the time.” said Wilch.
Meanwhile, Colin Geibel works in Mangiare’s kitchen.
“I am the sous chef here at Mangiare,” he said. “The servers are able to get into the kitchen more frequently to be able to run their food, where they’re not burdened with the constant back and forth having to run plates between tables. As you can see behind me, this is a fairly long stretch of a restaurant in general.”
So, here’s how Servi works: Servers and staff will type their table number into this pad, then the robot will find its way to the table to pick up used dishes.
“Is there are a scenario where Servi replaces in person staff?” FOX 11 asked.
“I don’t believe so, we’re using it right now as a helpful aid to help the servers,” Wilch answered.
And, as for the Palmers, they’ll be returning soon.
