GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Brown County residents looking for free help with some personal legal matters now have a place to go.
Every Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m., Legal Resources of Brown County will offer legal advice for folks unable to afford an attorney.
“They will be able to provide answers to questions related to family law matters such as child support, custody, placement, paternity establishment, along with landlord tenant issues,” says Brown County Child Support Director Maria Lasecki.
Volunteer paralegals will be available to help with legal forms used to file motions and help answer questions regarding court procedures. Attorneys will also volunteer to answer questions as well.
“It’s one of those services where the community has come together, recognized the need and bringing forth the service,” says Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach. “Hopefully, in the long run, it will streamline the process, while freeing up some staff resources both here at the county and with the state.”
The clinic, open on Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m., is located within the Wisconsin Job Center building at 701 Cherry Street in Green Bay.
There will be no fees charged for their services, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. However, volunteer attorneys will not be able to offer pro bono representation. That is something officials hope can happen in the future.
It was made possible through efforts of community volunteers along with the donation of space, parking and other resources by the Wisconsin Job Center through the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, and the legal community.
