UNDATED (WTAQ) – Marine veteran and political newcomer Mike Gallagher has defeated two other opponents to win the Republican primary election in the 8th Congressional District.
Gallagher beat Wisconsin Senator Frank Lasee (R-De Pere) and Terry McNulty, the Forestville village president. He now faces Democrat Tom Nelson in the Nov. 8 general election. Nelson ran unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.
Lasee released the following statement:
“I sincerely thank my family, friends, volunteers, supporters and staff for all their work and efforts in this race. I congratulate Mike Gallagher on this win.”
Gallagher served as national security adviser for Gov. Scott Walker’s presidential campaign. Nelson is the Outagamie County executive and a former state representative.
Incumbent U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble chose not to run for re-election.
