GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The company says it plans to close its facility on Day Street over the next 18 months.
Tissue manufacturing will end in mid-May, with other parts of the mill shutting down in September. Napkins will continue to be made until the fall of 2023, according to the company.
About 190 employees work at the mill, and the company says they will have the opportunity to apply for open roles at its other Green Bay facilities.
Georgia-Pacific Green Bay Operations Public Affairs Manager Mike Kawleski tells FOX 11….
“We got tons of openings right now at our Broadway mill and our Packerland converting operation. Plus, in December, Georgia-Pacific announced a half billion-dollar investment in a new premium paper towel line at the Broadway mill. That will be about 100+ jobs right there. So we want to keep our good employees wherever we can.”
He tells WTAQ that the decision was made based on a number of factors.
“Demand changes, investments that the company has made in other Georgia-Pacific facilities,” said Kawleski. “And taking a look at the assets at the Day Street mill, which are a little less competitive.”
The expansion was expected to create about 150 new positions.
