MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is hiring.
They’re on the lookout for conservation wardens, the law enforcement officers who enforce conservation law in the state, for example, hunting and fishing regulations.
“We hire a wide variety, a diverse group of applicants, to become conservation wardens,” said Lt. John Sinclair with the DNR.
Wardens are trained as law enforcement officers, but no law enforcement or specific educational background is needed.
“If they come to us with previous law enforcement credentials, their academy is only about eight weeks, but if they’ve never been in law enforcement before, we have to certify them,” said Cpt. Cara Kamke.
The DNR is accepting applications through March 6 for the 2023 class of Wardens. Kamke says 2023 will be when those hired this year formally graduate as wardens.
