STEPHENSVILLE, WI (WTAQ) – A Fox Valley church replaces its 44-year tradition of pig wrestling at its annual festival.
An animal rights group protested last year’s event at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish Round-Up in Stephensville.
So Sunday, organizers played large games of human foosball instead. Players held onto pipes and used everything but their hands to move a pig-shaped ball into their goals. 18 teams competed in a tournament, and 150 spectators looked on.
The Global Conservation group of Watertown protested at last year’s pig wrestling. They claim the pigs were punched in the face, jumped on, kicked, and tossed into buckets.
Festival organizers say they did nothing wrong — but they changed the event because they wanted fun instead of controversy.
