APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – Appleton police have arrested a man in connection with the abduction of a teenage female over the weekend.
Police say that the victim, who’s 17, knew the suspect because they had attended the same school. He apparently had been making unwanted advances toward her.
According to police, the girl left her workplace on W. Northland Avenue Sunday night when 19-year-old Toua Chang of Appleton physically forced her into a van. The girl tried to escape, but was unable to, because of equipment issues with the vehicle.
She did manage, however, to fight off Chang’s attempts to handcuff her.
Officials say Chang drove to the house he shares with his family on N. Birchwood Avenue and pulled into the garage. The girl was still trying to get out of the van, and a family member heard the girl’s cries and intervened. Eventually, family members got the girl back to her vehicle and asked her not to report this to police.
The girl, police say, told her family about what happened and contacted them.
Chang on Tuesday was charged with felony counts of kidnapping, stalking and false imprisonment.
