GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Thanksgiving is less than 24 hours away and it’s a day where many of us throw out any thoughts of watching what we eat.
Deb Guenterberg is a Registered Dietitian at Prevea Health and says that Americans on average consume 3,000 to 4,500 calories on turkey day.
“It really comes down to enjoying the day but small portions, not saying you can’t have something, but rather how much are you going to have.”
If you’re hosting the holiday, Guenterberg says keep that healthy person in mind when you make turkey and all the fixins’.
“Starting with the turkey, you always want to serve it without the skin. You’re going to save about 11 grams of fat and choose sweet potatoes and just roast them with maybe a little maple syrup.”
If you are worried about overindulging, there are smart phone apps that can help keep your calories in check.
“MyFitnessPal is one, I know that’s pretty common with many of my Prevea clients, but also I would say SparkPeople, and CalorieKing,” said Guenterberg.
Otherwise, exercise is always your bestfriend when trying to prevent packing on the pounds during this Thanksgiving season.
