MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Governor Tony Evers reacted Thursday moments after the US Supreme Court halted the enforcement of President Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate for employers with over 100 employees.
“Clearly that request was going to end up in court, and it’s still going to play out,” said Evers. “From the beginning, we’ve always had some concerns about that.”
Wisconsin Department of Health Services Secretary-designee Karen Timberlake also weighed in.
“Regardless of today’s decision, there’s plenty of work for all of us to do together to combat COVID-19,” she said.
Timberlake added that many employers around the state are encouraging vaccination.
The mandate required that workers at businesses with 100 or more employees must get vaccinated or submit a negative COVID-19 test every week to work.
The Supreme Court did allow such requirements for medical facilities that take Medicare or Medicaid payments.
