EPHRAIM, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – It might not have been what she was hoping for, but a Door County woman walked away with $1,000 after an appearance on “Jeopardy!”
Brigid Hogan of Ephraim was a contestant on Tuesday’s episode. She finished third out of the three competitors.
Hogan went up against reigning champion Amy Schneider, who extended her winning streak.
The Door County server found her way onto the popular TV show, not because of a life long dream, but because her family watched and played along during the early stages of the pandemic.
“I was really killing it at that time while we were watching and my sister said at the end of every episode,” sad Hogan. “They say if you’re interested in our show, take our online test.”
And so she did, but forgot about it for a year.
“Jeopardy reached out to me in June to do an audition and I remembered oh yeah, I did take that quiz a year ago,” said Hogan. “I auditioned and then they got in touch in October asking if I could come tape.”
It wasn’t just a typical episode.
Amy Schnieder had won over a million dollars during her historic run, prior to their November taping.
And when it was mentioned what she’s done, everyone understood what was at stake.
“We all kind of looked at each other like oh we’re playing in the big leagues. This isn’t some 3 day, one day champion. This is an all timer.”
When it came time to prepare for the show, Hogan says because she forgot she even auditioned, there wasn’t much time to study.
“When I got the call in October I was like oh jeez, didn’t really have time to do anything intensive. I was flying out in four weeks or something.”
And even though she didn’t take home the win, it’s still something that Hogan will never forget.
“Jeopardy!” airs weeknights at 6:00 on FOX 11.
