DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — We still know very little about the broad-daylight attack on a woman Tuesday on the East River Trail in De Pere.
De Pere police did not provide any updates Wednesday, and have not released any suspect description. The nature of the assault still hasn’t been released, nor has the condition of the victim.
De Pere police said Tuesday the attack was reported around 11:30 that morning after the husband of the victim found their infant child near the trail without his wife.
Abigail Van Eyck uses the East River Trail a few times a week.
“Usually when I’m on the trail, there’s actually almost the routines of other people. You start to recognize faces,” Van Eyck said.
On Tuesday, Van Eyck decided to forgo her walk.
“I could’ve been there. Either I was thinking ‘well, maybe I could’ve been there and prevented it’ because I would’ve been walking in that general area with my dog. Or it could’ve happened to me,” Van Eyck said.
Police say those walking the trail should stick to well-lit areas and travel in groups.
“Until they either feel that they’ve caught this person I don’t think I’d be going,” Van Eyck said.
Police are encouraging anyone who has any information about the incident to contact De Pere police.
