BROWN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Rebuilding spirits, that’s what members of the United Methodist system are working towards after the New Hope United Methodist Church in Ledgeview was destroyed by a fire Friday evening.
“For me, the building was special as it was where the church was located but the body of the church is what makes up the church,” New Hope United Methodist Church Pastor Rick Haberland said.
The Bethany United Methodist Church in Ashwaubenon opened its doors to members of New Hope, giving them a place to gather once again.
“The main thing is to apply Jesus teaching: treat other people the way you’d want to be treated. you just use that empathy and you have to think about how it would feel if we lost this place,” Bethany United Methodist Church Pastor Robb McClintock said.
Haberland tells FOX 11 members of the church have been supportive.
“They’re resolute in the mission of the New Hope Church to bring hope to those in need. So even though our building and some of the posessions were destroyed, the momentum and the determination of them remains strong.”
McClintock tells FOX 11 he wants to remind the community that God is still present, even in the most difficult times.
“In a disaster like this, whether that be a pandemic or a fire or personal health issues or whatever, God is still with us and in our community. Trust him.”
The New Hope Church leaders plan to meet in the next few weeks to figure out the next steps for the church.
