DE PERE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The class of 2023 is settling into their new surroundings along the Fox River.
Thursday is move-in day for first-year students on the St. Norbert College campus in De Pere.
New students and their families were greeted with “Green Knight” hospitality from the “Bruess Brigade.”
The group of faculty, staff, and student volunteers, led by President Brian Bruess, helped first-year students and their families haul furniture and boxes of belongings to their dorms.
President Bruess tells FOX 11 they do it so families can focus more on the special moment of sending their son or daughter off to college and less on the heavy lifting.
“The families are just delighted, in fact just overwhelmed with appreciation with the response, the hospitality. It really makes this move-in day special for them. Very memorable.”
Jenny Rotter from Manitowoc says she was unsure how they were going to unpack her vehicle for her daughter but was pleasantly surprised when they saw the Bruess Brigade.
“I can’t believe how well run move-in day is and there are kids here helping us move everything out of our car. It’s unheard of,” Rotter said.
Returning students will move back in today.
On the eve of the first day of classes, the college will kick off the school year with a fireworks display Sunday night.
The fireworks will be launched over the Fox River near the Ray Van Den Heuvel Family Campus Center, starting around 8:30 p.m.
Bruess says this year’s new student class is the sixth-largest in the college’s history.
