GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – With Hurricane Dorian ready to make its impact, Wisconsin Public Service says it is a waiting game to see if their services are going to be requested like they have been for other hurricanes.
“We have to take each storm on a strom-by-storm basis and look at each situation.”
Matt Cullen, WPS Spokesman says in his time with the company, the request tends to come after the storm hits and leaves.
“Those requests have come in after there has already been damage and outages that have occurred.”
He says there is a response team that would request assistance with power restoration if needed, but so far there has not been any word.
Cullen says once the request comes in, WPS will look at the current situation.
“We would evaluate those requests and be ready to respond if and when those requests did come into our company.”
While WPS has been on the helping end of multiple emergencies through the years, just this summer, they were on the receiving end.
Cullen says after the strong July storms, they were in need of outside help.
“That is what we were doing at that point, we were reaching out and trying to see what resources were available to come assist us.”
He says that was needed to get power restored as quickly as it was.
