KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A man has died after an officer-involved shooting in Kaukauna.
Police say an officer shot a suspect after a car chase around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday, involving several law enforcement agencies.
The pursuit went through Appleton and Little Chute before ending in Kaukauna.
“They terminated the contact due to it being unsafe.”
Mary Wery, Lieutenant with the Fox Valley Metro Police Department says the chase ended when the suspect crashed their vehicle near the intersection of County Highway OO and State Highway 55.
He says the altercation occurred during the arrest process and the suspect was shot in the upper body.
“In that process, a threat presented itself and an officer from our agency discharged his weapon and that suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was later deceased.”
The suspect has not been identified.
The Officer has not been named but has been placed on leave while DCI investigates the incident.
Fox Valley Metro says it is being assisted in this investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation, City of Appleton Police Department, City of Kaukauna Police Department, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Department and the Outagamie County C.E.R.T.
