FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – A chlorine leak evacuated Saputo Cheese and neighboring homes in the town of Alto Thursday.
The report came in just before 8 a.m. Officials say a Saputo Cheese employee was filling a 100-pound chlorine cylinder when something went wrong and it started to leak.
Ventilation assistance was needed.
A Fond Du Lac hazmat team and area fire departments were on scene for about 7 hours.
Firefighters later determined the building and area to be safe. Two people were checked for inhalation.
