GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Old Glory Honor Flight is gearing its latest trip toward local Korean War veterans. The Return to Korea trip, planned for May 2020, will take up to 50 veterans living in Northeast Wisconsin back to their former battlegrounds.
Scott Delsart is with Old Glory Honor Flight.
“The veterans will be selected at random…and those chosen will be notified this October”
Not as well known as World War Two or Vietnam, U-S action in Korea is sometimes called the forgotten war.
“The Republic of Korea, essentially would not exist today as it does without these men and women who fought there 70 years ago.”
Delsart says this is a chance to show those veterans they’re not forgotten.
“and that will help us to recall and remember and document their stories so we can truly insure than this is no longer the forgotten war.”
And the trip itself, lasting 10 days to two weeks, could have a healing impact on the veterans.
“for the veterans alone to see this nation thriving the way South Koreas is, is going to be of value to them.
In addition to the veterans, a guardian will accompany each one of them. A one-generation younger family member, or close friend, will qualify.
While the trip will be free for the veteran, the guardian will be required to pay $500 to offset trip expenses.
To be eligible, the veteran must have served in the Korea War between the dates of June 27, 1950 – October 15, 1954. Go to ‘old glory honor flight-dot-org’ to learn more and apply.
Old Glory Honor Flight will continue to operate its regular schedule of flights to Washington D. C., and participation in the Washington flight will not affect eligibility for Return to Korea.
