SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) – Former Sacred Heart Catholic School Principal and Shawano Music Boosters Club Treasurer Aleta Young has been charged with Theft From A Business Setting after being accused of embezzling over $6,000 dollars from the club’s accounts.
According to the criminal complaint, the Music Booster Club noticed inconsistencies in the accounting records and it was discovered that Young allegedly made unauthorized withdrawals and was writing checks from the account for personal use.
Transactions began in May of 2017 through March of 2019. According to the complaint, over $3,400 dollars was allegedly withdrawn from either the savings account or the checking account at the time. The Music Booster Club also reported checks that were written out to a car repair shop, a credit union and a personal check all signed by Young.
It was also reported that Young allegedly failed to deposit over $4,000 dollars that were raised from the concession stand fundraisers, raffles, school musicals, and other fundraisers, according to files given to the Shawano Police Department.
According to Shawano Police, during the investigation, Young asked if she could work with the Music Booster Club to make things right on numerous occasions.
It was reported that the club asked Young to resign as Treasurer in March of 2019 because she was not attending the board meetings, according to the complaint. That was when the checkbook was balanced and missing dollars and missing carbon copies of checks were noticed.
If convicted, Young could face a $10,000 fine and up to six years in prison.
An initial appearance is scheduled in Shawano County Court on October 21.
