APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Some COVID-19 vaccination sites are allowing you to choose which of the three available vaccines you get.
Thedacare is offering you the choice of vaccines when you sign up for an appointment on their website.
“With the increase supply, we’re getting more than one type of vaccine, so more of it is coming in from the state,” said Thedacare chief clinical officer Dr. Mark Cockley. “We don’t have a lot of choice but, now that we’re getting multiple ones, it allows us the opportunity to provide some choice for people, when we have those different ones available.”
“You can go and see what’s available at which site, so it’ll tell you at this vaccination site, it’s a Moderna vaccine available,” Cockley explained. “If there are slots available, you can then sign up and get your vaccine.”
Appleton Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht says there are people with a vaccine preference.
“Some seek the Moderna, some seek out the Johnson & Johnson, and everyone has their own reasons behind it,” he said. “It’s hard to determine why they’re making that determination.”
Still, even though you may now have a choice of vaccine, health officials say not to wait.
“We don’t want you to pass up that availability now to get the vaccine, if you can,” said Cockley.
Two of the vaccines, Pfizer’s and Moderna’s, require two shots while Johnson & Johnson only requires one.
