LEDGEVIEW, WI (WTAQ) – The pilot of a plane that crashed into a pickup truck in Ledgeview last week was returning from an inspection, and had concerns about wet conditions on the grass runway.
A preliminary National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report shows John Fiddelke of De Pere flew to Neenah to have his plane inspected on the morning of October 17th. The mechanic there told investigators Fiddelke was concerned about the wet conditions at Martins Aerodrome in Ledgeview, where he planned to land near the end of the runway on his return.
Dashcam video and witness reports show the plane just five feet over Highway MM near the runway, where the crash occurred. The crash pushed the truck off the road and into a ditch, with the plane still on top of it.
On-site inspection by the NTSB showed nothing wrong with the airframe or planes engine.
