GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Northeast Wisconsin’s early winter-like weather has suspended the Fox River Cleanup Project’s efforts for the year.
The in-river work of the 11 year long effort to rid the river of hazardous pollution was expected to wrap up this year. Scott Stein is the project spokesman.
“Unfortunately the cold weather came a little bit earlier than expected,” Stein told WTAQ. “As a result the project is shut down for the year. It was expected to be the final year.”
Stein hopes efforts will be able to pick up early next year.
“Certainly hoping to get things started again around late March or early April as we have tried to do throughout the project,” said Stein.
The long running project aims to reduce the risk to human health and the environment due to the presence of toxins in river sediment.
