TOWN OF RIPON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A large house was completely destroyed in the Town of Ripon on Friday afternoon. More than 100 firefighters from more than two-dozen area departments responded to fire on Cork Street. But when fire crews arrived, the fire was moving so fast that nothing could be done to stop it.
Ripon fire chief Tim Saul says that factors such as lack of water supply, structural collapse, propane tanks releasing on firefighters, and ammunition stored in the house’s basement that was going off slowed the ability to fight the fire.
The sheriff’s department says an employee of the house noticed flames coming from near the chimney, and alerted the residents inside. Everyone got out of the house safely. The house collapsed and is a total loss. Firefighters say it’s too early to determine what caused it.
