GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Some students and faculty in the Green Bay Area Public School District are heading back to the classroom today, for the first time since COVID 19 shut things down March 13th of 2020.
Preble High School teacher Jerrod Valley is very excited. He’s missed the social interaction.
“If it felt good to me I can’t imagine that the adolescent age how good that’s going to feel for them.”
At the high school level it’s going to be a mix of in-person and virtual learning.
Valley’s advice for parents is to remind their students that virtual classes are just as important as the time they spend inside the classroom.
“We are going to make mistakes and we have to have a little humility here and not get too worked up because things change so quickly.”
Board members have approved bringing students back to in-person classes starting on March 1st, earlier than the date they set last in January.
The full plan would start with students in grades 3K-5 returning to class for four days a week beginning that day. A blended mix of students in sixth and ninth grades would also return to in-person classes on March 1st.
On March 8th, a blended group of students would return to in-person classes for grades 7-8, as well as grades 10-12.
The week of March 22nd would be virtual for all students. Students would return to blended learning on March 29th, the following week.
