GREEN BAY , WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The coronavirus pandemic has put a damper on this holiday season, from Halloween, to Thanksgiving, and now to Christmas and Hanukkah.
With les than a week to go in 2020, we can all agree, it’s been anything but a normal year.
“Cause of COVID we were restricted on a lot of things. It’s been a very tough year,” Faye Mostek of Appleton said.
“It was a lot different than usual. We come from a big family and we usually have a big get-together, my mom has 11 siblings so we all usually get together,” Cassie Shultz of De Pere continued.
“In 53 years I’ve only been away from my siblings three years,” Cassie’s mother Kathy Shultz added.
“But, due to the circumstances, it was just our immediate family, so it was really small,” Cassie finished.
Families made the most out of it all on Saturday, with tubing and ice skating in Titletown… and tell FOX 11 they have a new-found appreciation.
“Although we’re away from our family and it looks a lot different, it’s really nice to be able to just relax and enjoy one another,” Cassie said.
“It was just a nice time to just relax and actually enjoy it this year instead of running all over the place,” Corey Heisler said.
“Christmas time is always a lot of hustle and bustle and I was thinking about it, we weren’t rushed running around. We were able to open our presents in the morning, spend time together,” Cassie said.
The day after Christmas, many people had new gifts from Santa Claus to appreciate too.
“We got these Mighty Ducks jerseys yesterday from Santa, and we thought it’d be cool to come here and show them off on the ice,” Corey Heisler told FOX 11.
“My niece got a new pair of ice skates from Santa Claus, so we’re here trying them out,” Cassie Shultz said.
While making ther best of it over the weekend all say they will be happy to put 2020 in the rearview mirror.
