CHICAGO, IL (WTAQ) — There are going to be a lot fewer people on the road for the biggest travel season of the year.
GasBuddy’s Patrick DeHaan says about a third of their survey respondents said they’re traveling this year, compared to 2/3rds last year, and it comes amid the lowest gas prices we’ve seen for the Thanksgiving season in five years.
“Green Bay’s average price is still under two dollars a gallon at about $1.82,” DeHaan said. “It has been for quite some time.”
That’s on par with prices seen in the Fox Valley. DeHaan says it’s likely you’ll see more travel in rural parts of the country this year. The gas prices, however, aren’t expected to last.
“In the last couple of weeks, with positive vaccine trials coming to light, oil prices have really increased notably,” DeHaan told WTAQ. “We’re up around $10 a barrel.”
The Thanksgiving holiday is the busiest travel holiday of the year.
