GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – What may have started as a typical trip to the grocery store for some Green Bay area residents, ended with a bit more than they may have bargained for.
About a week ago, Lois Halonen tells FOX 11 she took a trip to the grocery store after visiting her son.
“As I was pulling in this lady was kind of zigzagging in front of me and then came up to my window and she handed me a turkey and she said “Happy Thanksgiving.” I was just shocked.”
Halonen wasn’t the only one.
“She was giving turkeys to other people. She had given a turkey to a lady that was over here. She had a couple boxes of turkeys in her car and a couple boxes of turkeys in her basket and I have no idea who she was. No idea.”
Felipa Martinez’s husband and daughter were outside her home in Green Bay when they both were given turkeys.
“My husband came in the house and he said, “hey, a lady came in and gave us a turkey outside.” And I said, “what lady?” And he said, “I don’t know she just handed us a turkey and said Happy Thanksgiving.” And my daughter said, “I got one too. ” And I was like, “well who is she?” And they said, “I don’t know, she was a Thanksgiving Fairy.”
Martinez plans to use one of the turkeys to teach her daughter how to make tamales.
Halonen gave her turkey to a family her son’s rugby team adopted for Christmas.
“I have all I need. It’s the time to help all of those that could use a little bit.”
Martinez tells FOX 11 she plans to use one of the turkeys to teach her daughter how to make tamales.
“With COVID, people can’t see people smiling anymore, it just seems like people are grumpier. Just the fact that somebody out there is making people happy, even if it’s for a moment with a turkey, that just feels really good.”
Halonen says others have reached out to her since she was given the turkey to see how they can help contribute to families during the holidays too.
