GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Saturday marks three days out from Election Day, and most surrounding municipalities finished up early voting on Friday.
But Green Bay voters got one more chance to cast their ballots in-person before Tuesday.
“It’s a very important decision we have to make today,” Carie Kielpikowski said.
Cars lined up behind Kielpikowski, headed to the same place, but with different goals in mind.
“Medicare and Social Security and issues that affect older people,” Dan Arendt said.
“Trustworthiness,” Mark Vickman said.
“The economy,” Ken Scray said. “I’m excited to vote, it’s my first time voting for a president actually, I’m almost 40 years old, I feel this is the most important one.”
Voters in Green Bay cast their ballots from inside of their cars.
“I’m a single mom and it makes it easier that I don’t have to take off of work to come and do it,” Kielpikowski said.
“It just seems to be a safer way to go with the COVID,” Arendt said.
“It’s warmer in the car,” Scray added.
“I had hip replacement surgery a couple weeks ago and I figured this would be a very easy option rather than waiting in line,” Vickman explained.
Cars lined up around the block all morning, but there were some road bumps along the way.
One voter had a large “Trump 2020” in the back of his pickup truck.
“I had that in there to show support for Donald Trump and I was told to remove it because you can’t have a flag within 100 feet of a polling station,” Scray said. “Somebody behind me in line said something, so I took it out, no big deal, I’ll put it back in later.”
The same goes for wearing a face mask, if it’s in support of any candidate.
“They really should take their, they should just flip it around, then it’s not electioneering,” chief of staff for Green Bay’s mayor Celestine Jeffreys said.
“You’re kind of advised not to touch the outside of the facemask, because of what could be on it,” FOX 11’s Babs Santos asked.
“They should flip it around before they get to the polling location,” Jeffreys answered.
If you still have an absentee ballot, it’s too late to mail it in. Instead, drop it off at a city drop box, or…
“Bring your smile and your patience,” Jeffreys said.
And your ID, to vote on on election night…
“Just get out there and vote, if you stand in line, stand in line,” Vickman said.
Face masks are not required at the polls on Tuesday, but the city is asking everyone to wear one, as our area sees a surge in coronavirus cases.
