GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The suspect in a fatal hit & run crash made his initial court appearance Friday.
John Parnon, 64, was arrested in Waukesha County, where he lives, on one count of hit & run resulting in death. Bond was set at $25,000 cash. He returns to court Oct. 15 for a preliminary hearing.
Eliot Cooper, 42, of Oneida, was killed in the crash Monday at the roundabout outside the entrance to Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.
According to the criminal complaint, police found a vehicle’s cowl seal at the scene. Using the information for the type of vehicle, officers checked casino security camera footage to track a suspect.
A citizen called police with information about the crash, saying Parnon said he hit something but wasn’t sure what it was.
Parnon denied being at the casino and denied talking to anyone about damage to his vehicle – but after being showed security camera footage, he admitted it was him, according to the complaint.
Defense attorney Shane Brabazon noted law enforcement had been called to respond to Cooper walking along the highway at night. And it was in an area where it could be common for a motorist to hit an animal.
