GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The first of four suspects charged in connection with the death of a teenager during a drug deal was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison.
Colton Kehoe, 20, previously pleaded no contest to being party to first-degree reckless homicide and obstruction. He was also placed on extended supervision for eight years by Judge Marc Hammer.
Federico Abarca, 18, was shot and killed during a drug deal for marijuana vaping cartridges on Feb. 22, 2019. Kehoe, Jared Williquette, Jarid Stevens and Gavin Rock were charged with being party to first-degree reckless homicide.
Williquette, 22, allegedly shot Abarca, although his attorney maintains it was self-defense. He is also charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery, as well as misdemeanor counts of obstruction and bail jumping. He told police he used a 9mm Smith & Wesson in the shooting, according to the complaint. Trial is scheduled for Jan. 11.
Gavin Rock, 18, allegedly set up the deal. He is charged with being party to reckless homicide, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, as well as misdemeanor counts of obstruction and bail jumping. A plea hearing is scheduled for Nov. 2.
Stevens, 20, also faces counts of being party to reckless homicide, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, plus misdemeanor obstructing. A status conference is set for Dec. 18.
Green Bay police said Rock set up a drug deal with Abarca on Snapchat. The four went to Abarca’s apartment planning to steal five vaping cartridges that contained THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
