ONEIDA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A federal grant will help an area tribe provide housing for its veterans in need.
The U.S Department of Housing and Development (HUD) awarded Oneida Nation with a $140,985 grant.
The tribe accepted the check during a ceremony Friday.
The grant will fund housing and supportive services to Native American veterans who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness.
Oneida Nation was one of nine tribes and tribally designated housing entities to receive grants totaling $1.1 million.
The tribe has also received the grant in 2015, with renewed funding in 2017, 2018 and now 2020.
Over the course of four years, 22 veterans have been able to find stable housing.
